Meet the Principal

Richard S. Johnstone, Directeur - Principal

Mr. Johnstone was born in Visalia and raised in Northern California. He attended San Jose State and Humboldt State Universities and earned degrees in Zoology and Wildlife Management.  He began his career as a Wildlife Biologist conducting field research on migratory birds for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Land Management, and U. S. Forest Service.  After 10 years of working in the Pacific Northwest, Richard returned to Southern Oregon State University to pursue a Master’s Degree and obtain credentials in Math and Science.  It was his dream to enter the classroom and share his vast field experience with middle school students.  His teaching career began at Jackson Street School in Yreka, California where he taught Math and Science to middle school students and created an award-winning Science Club that was partnered with the Klamath National Forest.  Teaching would eventually take Richard, his wife- Marianne, and their two children to overseas posts at international schools in Israel, Bolivia, Myanmar, and India.  Richard was instrumental in setting up science programs and special laboratory facilities in these overseas schools.  While working in Myanmar, he completed his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University and had the opportunity to be a Head Principal for the past few years.  Richard is excited to return to his home State and continue to share his love of science and experience both here and abroad with his new students at SRFACS.
